The Movement

Willemstad, February 6, 2012

The switch from Capitalism to Givingism.

Last night I had a dream, a dream in which a new movement will start, a global movement. It will start in Curacao but will spread to all corners of the world. A movement for a new way of living, a new way of being, and a new way of thinking that will be embraced and applied by people from all social levels all over the world.

We have arrived in a time where people have started to realize that just making money is not enough. Money cannot buy it all. It may buy material wealth but it does not buy happiness. People are starting to realize that giving can be far more powerful and rewarding than just receiving. This is because we are realizing that giving ultimately leads to more receiving but receiving does not automatically lead to more giving. By receiving I don't mean (just) financial rewards. It's a receiving in a much broader sense. When you give someone a helping hand, a support, encouraging or comforting words, a gift, love or anything positive that contributes to wellbeing of another, it will help the other to feel better and grow but it will also give YOU back a sense of personal satisfaction and joy. And it is in this giving and sharing that we find happiness. So the great reward is not in what we give but in how it makes us FEEL. Maybe not right away, but the rewards/blessings come back at the time and in way that we least expect it.

We are realizing that material wealth and money are not worth much if we do not have people in our lives whom we love and who love us back that we can share these material gains with, which is indicating that love is a priceless commodity that money alone cannot buy. Making money has made it possible for us to buy and build what we want, what we think we need, and what most people attribute to measurement of success. But it has also made us live a life where we race against time to make more money consequently living a life filled with stress, (unconsciously) self inflicted illnesses, feeling of inequality, negative emotions like jealousy and rivalry, even killings and wars. All these contribute to an unbalanced life and a sense of lack -emotionally, spiritually, physically and/or mentally. Money is still important, but money alone is not enough!

But I see a new way of living, thinking and being on the horizon. A new world where we switch from Capitalism (money driven) being the main pursuit and measurement of happiness to "GIVINGISM" being the ultimate means not just for happiness but also for economic growth. People will experience the power of giving not just by the positive way they feel back in return but they will also visibly see how far their giving will stretch to the happiness of not just themselves but that of others as well. The more people start to live this new way of giving and being, the more they will receive in return and will want to continue to GIVE. This new way of living and being can heal and thus bring back the much needed balance in body, mind and spirit that we all need. So this is the time for GIVINGISM, to show how priceless giving truly is. And the great thing is ...."You don't need money to be a GIVER". Anyone can be a giver! You can give help, a smile, a listening ear, your attention, help, love....... There are endless means of giving, and the rewards are PRICELESS! The more you give, the more you receive. If your reward does not come back from the receiver, it will come from other unexpected sources. That makes it far more exciting and precious as you never know what blessing you will receive in return. But first YOU have to plant the seed (GIVE), in order for the plant to grow (YOUR REWARD). That's the law of nature!

Be a GIVER, join Givingism the movement... and help others to learn the value of giving. It's PRICELESS!
